Information for Special Education and Extended School Year Services
Extended School Year (ESY) services means special education and related services that are provided to a child with a disability (aged 3-21) under the following conditions:(1) Beyond the school term provided to nondisabled children; (2) in accordance with the child's IEP; and (3) at no cost to the parents of the child. IEP teams must consider ESY eligibility and need annually. A student’s IEP team uses a data-based decision-making model to determine need for ESY and related services. The IEP developed for ESY must include goals and objectives. ESY is not the same as general education summer learning program. Not all students with IEPs need extended school year services. Students in gifted education do not qualify for ESY. KCKPS Contact for ESY: Assistant Director of SPED Dana Nelson.
