Baseball Starts 2023 At 6-0 After Sweep Of Marshalltown

After sweeping Rockhurst JV to begin the season, the KCKCC baseball team blasted past Marshalltown for four straight wins on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the Blue Devils defeated the Tigers 14-4 and 18-3, while winning 13-7 and 20-5 on Sunday.

The team is now 6-0 to begin the 2023 campaign.

SATURDAY

KCKCC fought off an early deficit in the first game by tying the game at 2-2 in the second inning. A six-run third inning and five-run sixth inning would propel them to a victory over the Tigers.

Gehrig Goldbeck led the team with three hits in the game, while Brady Patterson hit three home runs and had six RBI.

Zachary DeFreece earned the win on the mound, striking out four batters.

In game two, the Blue Devils used that same momentum to catapult them to a 18-3 win. A seven-run first inning was all the team needed in the contest.

Payton McHarg and Levi Martin each hit a home run in the game. McHarg led the team with four RBI.

Noah Young earned the win striking out three batters over five innings.

SUNDAY

KCKCC jumped out to a 11-0 lead in the first five innings. Marshalltown scored seven runs in the next two frames.

Goldbeck, Patterson, Matthew Buffington and Jett Buck each had three hits in the game. Patterson hit his fourth home run of the series in the contest.

In game two of the day, the Blue Devils jumped ahead for a 7-0 lead before Marshalltown cut the deficit to two at 7-5. KCKCC was not fazed however, as they scored 13 runs in the final four innings of the game.

Patterson hit his fifth home run of the series, while Jase Woita also connected for a shot over the fence.

Mason Davenport earned the win on the mound, despite throwing just one inning.
